Longer days are here and we can finally ride our bikes home from work at night without turning on all our flashing lights. I have to admit that I used mine only a few times over the winter. I find that the front flashing light ruins my night vision making it harder to see what's going on in front of me. So there's this balance: The light makes me more visible to cars and pedestrians, but it also makes cars and pedestrians less visible to me. I'm not sure which is worse, but since I know that I'm paying attention and not all cars or street walkers are, I err on the side of making my sight a bit better and being more careful. I'm not sure what the solution is, but next winter I'll try mounting a big flashing light on top of my head. Ideally cars would think it's the police and pullover, and then we'd all be safe.
