I have a major problem booking hotels in advance. I tell myself it's because I like to be free while traveling and stay open to last-second opportunities, but really it's a fear of getting screwed over by not arriving in time and paying for a hotel room to sit empty. It'd be sitting empty whether or not I'm there since I always travel during low tourist seasons, and chances are nothing will go wrong and I'll be there in time to check in, but there's some intangible quality to committing to a very specific space several states away when so many things can go wrong. It's an issue of commitment for me. Though I am booking these hotels for my honeymoon, so at least commitment isn't a massive over-arching problem in my life.
