You've heard the notion that every person has some kind of natural talent, something that makes them special. Mr. Rodgers and Sesame St. both espoused these notions to me as a child. Though now I can see that my mistake was taking it too much to heart back then. In elementary school I sat back and waited for my awesome natural talent to emerge. One year I'd try soccer, that wasn't it. So then hockey, baseball, ninja training class, waterskiing--and none of it seemed to be my natural talent. It seemed like such a rip-off. It wouldn't be until much later that I realize you actually had to put in some degree of work to cultivate any talent.
