Christmas Tree Danger

Once you see a dried-up Christmas tree catch fire and burn you wonder why anyone would ever keep one in their home. The destructive, fast-moving nature of forest fires also makes a lot more sense. And by the time New Year's roles around, you know those Christmas trees are as dry as they'll ever be. They've stopped soaking up water and if you're lucky enough to have a fire pit it will take about 10 seconds for you to burn the thing up once you haul it outside. Every New Year's party I go to where someone still has a Christmas tree up, I'll think about how people used to smoke in their homes, especially during parties, and wonder why everyone of a certain age doesn't have several stories about New Year's Eve fires.
