I used to work with a young woman who was a tireless warrior for all justice in the universe. It was cute. I would put on a pot of coffee and walk in when it was halfway done brewing. She'd be standing there, waiting for it to finish. I'd pull the pot off and pour a cup, then put it back on the burner. Her eyes would lock on me. Judgment. Anger. "You know that when you take a cup of coffee before it's done brewing, you're taking the best coffee and leaving the bitter stuff for the rest of us." I would nod slowly and look at her, as if I was warming up to some new idea that she'd just introduced. She had a similar speech ready for the time I opened a new jug of 2% milk in the office fridge before the old one was gone. I hope she's still around fighting all the small battles no one else cares about.
