Exclamation Point Rule
I'm not inclined to use exclamation points in real life. I just don't have an exclamation point personality. But in work emails to colleagues and acquaintances, I employ them constantly. "Thanks!" "Sounds great!" It's not that I'm that much more effusive at work, it's just that the context of work email conversations call for many more exclamation points. It's basically a different language. A while ago a friend told me that every person gets three exclamation points that they get to use in their life. Using them too much waters them down, kind of like swear words. You have to be choosy. But I'm calling for a work-email exemption for the 3-time rule. Go ahead and drop those things all over your emails for a bit more personality.
