Cleaning Time
Some folks from out of town moved in next door, and they've popped over twice. I've never met anyone else who lives on my floor so this level of involvement from a neighbor is new to me. And I don't think it's a regional thing. I lived in a duplex in Minneapolis for two years and have no idea if anyone even lived next door. Our apartment is very similar to our neighbor's space, so they come in to see what our bathroom looks like and how we have things laid out. Both times they've gone into our bedroom. Once to inspect the bolt heads sticking out from the wall where I literally drilled through the wall to hang a TV and once to check out the view (exactly the same as theirs). Each time they came in the place was a mess. Piles of clothes in the corner and bike parts stacked on my dresser. It made me feel like we should work a bit harder to keep our apartment clean in case people pop over, but upon further consideration I decided that since people have shown up on our doorstep unannounced only twice, we're better off living our way and then dealing with the short-lived embarrassment. It's much more effective time management that way.
