I started into an 800-page book on a recommendation from a friend. All I knew is that it was some kind of sci-fi thing that was set about 20 or 30 years into the future. It's pretty good, but there's a problem. I found out 200 pages in that it's about vampires. They don't call them vampires. They call them 'smokes' or 'dracs' and people march around hunting them or hiding in well-lit cities. The book is actually pretty good, but since it's so long that it's taking me a long time to read it. That doesn't bother me, but what does bother me is that now whenever the conversation turns to books and we're all talking about what we're currently reading, I have to tell everyone that I'm reading an 800-page book about vampires. It's embarrassing. They all think I'm into vampire teen dramas now.
