I try really hard not to creep out single women walking alone at night by approaching them from behind too quickly. I walk pretty fast so I want to get past them, I just try not to look like I'm about to rip their purse off their arm and run into traffic. When it comes to guys I don't think twice about it, even if it's the middle of the night and they're at the ATM. I can see the way people sometimes tense up, in a defensive position, ready to punch me in the face with a fistful of their keys. I do the same thing sometimes when I'm getting cash late at night and a stranger approaches. That said, so far I have not been robbed. Nor have I robbed anyone. We all just need to relax about walking around late at night and using ATMs by ourselves.
