Adventure on the Open Road
I stopped on my way home to buy a new bike chain and left with a spoke and two bike lights. I realized I'd forgotten the chain as soon as I exited the store, but there was no going back. I hate backtracking. If I take a wrong turn when I'm driving, I'll get out the map and devise a new route. I don't mind if it takes me miles out of my way, as long as I can avoid having to drive back the way I came from. There is no logic to this kind of mentality, but I like to think that it's more adventurous. Of course, people don't like to hear about adventure and romance when you arrive an hour late as a result of unwillingness to backtrack, so I just tell them that I stopped to help someone with a flat tire.
